The tally of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus disease on Sunday rose to 21 after seven new cases were detected in Maharashtra, one in Delhi and nine in Rajasthan, India Today reported.In Delhi, a traveller, who had returned from Tanzania, tested positive for the infection, ANI reported.The patient has been admitted to the city’s Lok Nayak Hospital, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said.“Samples of 12 out of 17 positive passengers were sent for genome sequencing and one of them, who arrived from Tanzania, tested Omicron positive according to preliminary report,� Jain said. The patient in Delhi has mild symptoms, an unidentified official told PTI. The official added that the person’s travel history is being collected and contacts are being traced.In Maharashtra, the samples that were found positive for the Omicron variant belong to a 44-year-old woman, who had travelled from Nigeria, her two daughters, her brother and her two nieces, a statement from the state health department said. A 47-year-old man, who travelled from Finland in November, was also found positive, the Maharashtra government said. The 44-year-old woman, who is a citizen of Nigeria, was visiting Maharashtra’s Pimpri-Chinchwad city to meet her brother, a state health official said.Thirteen contacts of the woman were traced and their samples were sent for testing...Read more
